Hi there again!

It seems like ages since i have put a post onto my blog, many apologies, but things have been really hectic since i finished university in June. Firstly ia proud and honoured to say that i received a first class honours pass!!! (after a lot of hard work) – and i then headed off down to London to find my fortune (so i thought) at ‘New Designers’ exhibition in Islington….

What an experience it was, i was approached by 4 publishers, card companies and such like – lots of leads for work, but i wasnt aware at the time how long it took for these leads to come into fruition! (i have realised that not everybody works at the same speed as me, so am learning to chill a bit at the moment). I was given the opportunity to enter a few competitions, one for Hallmark (one entry can be seen below), a few designs for Tigerprint, and i still have to complete the repeat pattern design for Filofax yet (thats due this month) – and i was happy to do these entries as i could see that they want to see what designs you can come up with under pressure – instead of dragging things out of your portfolio etc…

So here is one of the 3 entries i made to Hallmark, under the title ‘The Great British Summer’. I wanted to focus on the seaside summers of the 1970’s as this was the time when i was on the sand digging away, and i remember all the images so clearly! I have also decided to embrace the fact that i quite often like to refer to traditional images but just put them across in a more contemporary way.

The design is for paper based products such as wrapping paper and bags, with some of the images being able to be used for card design as well. I will post more of the entries up for other competitions as they clear their closing dates.

Any feedback would be most welcome 🙂
