Quentin Blake

What can i say about Quentin Blake? I think he is one of the lucky ones who has been able to spend his life doing what he loves – unlike some of us who are only getting the chance to do that at 40+ ! He was producing images at only 16 years of age, and soon after was creating the front pages of Punch magazine! His style has changed from then, to the wonderful images so often seen in the Roald Dahl books that he illustrated. There as sooooo many pictures i like of his, Mr Magnolia, the Cockatoos, Mrs Armitage and much more

I love his loose style, his pen and ink quick drawings that he splashes with watercolour – regardless of the boundaries of the line, and i love the detail that is incorporated into his pictures that i think truly captures the child’s imagination (and i am sure that is why he is so popular with children) for instance in the ‘Cockatoos’ book where the Cockatoos hide in all of the pictures, and you have to look and find them – children love this…and so do i!!

I love the comment he made in his book ‘ Words and Pictures’ when he said that when people ask him where his inspiration comes from he tells them he doesn’t know – in fact he is sure he will never have another idea!’ – but then of course he does.He shows us that sometimes you have to just go with the flow, and know that the inspiration will come from somewhere.I like this quote that he said about inspiration…

“I am not quite sure what inspiration is…but if it’s going to turn up, my having started work is the precondition of its arrival!! (2000)
